New Delhi: The National Nursing and Midwifery Commission Bill, 2023 and the National dentistry Commission Bill, 2023, which aim to improve the caliber of nursing and dentistry education, were approved by the Lok Sabha today.

The National dentistry Commission Bill proposes creating the National Dental Commission (NMC) to oversee dentistry education and the profession in the nation while also attempting to overturn the Dentists Act of 1948.

Additionally, it intends to lower the cost of dentistry school and provide access to high-quality oral healthcare.

The Indian Nursing Council Act, 1947 is to be repealed in addition to creating the National Nursing and Midwifery Commission (NNMC) under the National Nursing and Midwifery Commission Bill, 2023.

The proposed legislation calls for the control and upkeep of nursing and midwifery experts' educational and professional standards, as well as the evaluation of institutions and the upkeep of both a federal and state register.

Mansukh Mandaviya, the minister of health, introduced the proposals for discussion and said they should be approved because they would enhance the legal system and raise the standard of nursing and dental education in the nation.

The goal, according to Mandaviya, is to raise educational standards so that nurses, dentists, and other medical professionals can provide the greatest care to people in India and beyond.

Later, the two laws were approved by voice vote amidst protesting opposition MPs chanting slogans over Manipur.
