Assam: 2.5 kg elephant tusk recovered from resident in Morigaon, one arrested

Officials from the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary searched the Tengatoli area in Laharighat in Morigaon on Friday morning based on the information. The elephant tusk, according to officials, was housed in a chamber in the home of Laharighat resident Asmat Ali. According to officials, the individual was taken into custody for allegedly participating in the unlawful trafficking of wildlife animal body parts. US' Center for Disease Control and Prevention is tracking the lineage of the new mutated variant of COVID causing coronavirus.   BA.2.86 has been classified as a “variant under monitoring” by Worl Health Organization (WHO) due to the large number of mutations it carries. The COVID-19 virus has undergone significant mutations recently, according to a statement made on Thursday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States. The CDC announced on Twitter(X) that the new lineage of the virus, known as BA.2.86, has been found in Israel, Denmark, and the United States. According to a U.S. counterintelligence officer speaking to Reuters, "we anticipate growing threats to this burgeoning sector of the U.S. economy," adding that "China and Russia are among the leading foreign intelligence threats to the U.S. space industry." Preliminary investigations indicate an old enmity with his neighbours could be the cause of the incident, police said.    The gunmen knocked on his door and called his name at around 5:30 am. New Delhi:  Local journalists in the Araria district of Bihar were shot and killed this morning at their home by unidentified assailants, according to Bihar Police. The event happened near the Raniganj Bazaar. Described as a dukhad (sad) occurrence, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said he immediately ordered officials to look into the crime after learning about it. He told reporters in Patna, "How can a journalist be killed like this."
