The owner of the home was taken into custody under the Wildlife Protection Act after an elephant tusk measuring 2.5 kilograms was found by forest officials in Assam's Morigaon district on Friday.

Officials from the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary searched the Tengatoli area in Laharighat in Morigaon on Friday morning based on the information.

The elephant tusk, according to officials, was housed in a chamber in the home of Laharighat resident Asmat Ali.

According to officials, the individual was taken into custody for allegedly participating in the unlawful trafficking of wildlife animal body parts.

"The arrested person is in the custody of the forest department, and a case has been registered against him under the Wildlife Protection Act," the officers added.

Several raids around the state have been conducted in recent weeks by the Forest department, Wildlife Crime Control Bureau, and Assam police. Along with the arrest of several suspected smugglers, these operations resulted in the recovery of the body parts of several poached wild animals.

A special task force detained three rhino poachers on August 13 in the Chirang district, which is close to the border between India and Bhutan. Additionally, they retrieved a sizable number of elephant tusks from them.
