"Terrifying" Experience For Passengers As US Plane Drops 15,000 Feet In 3 Minutes

American Airlines said in a statement that the crew decided to safely descend at a lower altitude because of the pressurisation issue.

The flight dropped almost 20,000 feet within 11 minutes.

According to a Fox News story, an American Airlines plane headed for Florida descended nearly 15,000 feet in just three minutes. From Charlotte, North Carolina, American Airlines Flight 5916 was flying to Gainesville, Florida. When the plane reported a "possible pressurization issue," it alarmed the passengers.

Professor from the University of Florida and airplane passenger Harrison Hove used social media to describe his experience. The burning stench, loud blast, and ear pops, he claimed, could not be captured in images, and the occurrence was "terrifying." Pictures posted on X show oxygen masks hanging inside the aircraft, with many passengers, including him, struggling to breathe.

I frequently fly. It was horrible. Bravo to our outstanding flight crew, including the pilots and cabin crew on @AmericanAir 5916. The ear pops, loud blast, and burning stench are not visible in the photographs. It's good to be down there, he wrote in the caption.

According to information provided by FlightAware, the plane descended over 20,000 feet in just 11 minutes. 43 minutes into the flight, the aircraft dropped 18,600 feet in less than six minutes.

Mr. Hove said, "Something failed mid-flight and the cabin lost pressure. Utilizing the oxygen canisters is reportedly what caused the burning stench.

According to him, "wing flaps came out to immediately lower our altitude so there would be more oxygen." "It was terrifying, but it worked out okay," he continued.

In a statement to Fox News, American Airlines said that the crew's choice to safely descend at a lower altitude was motivated by the pressurization problem. "On Thursday, August 10, American Eagle flight 5916, operated by Piedmont Airlines, arrived without incident in Gainesville, Florida (GNV), flying from Charlotte (CLT) to GNV.

The crew detected a potential pressurization problem while in flight and swiftly and safely lowered the aircraft to a lower altitude. A spokeswoman added, "We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused to our consumers and applaud our employees for their professionalism.
