Mumbai's Weather for today:'Red' alert issued throughout Maharashtra, police issue advise, and IMD issues heavy rain warning | Updates

A red alert was issued by the IMD for some areas of Maharashtra on July 24 due to the intense rains that have been battering the state, particularly Thane and Mumbai.

As rains batter Mumbai and cases of waterlogging get reported across the city, the biggest casualties is the city’s real estate sector.

With heavy rains and thunderstorms forecast for Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for many districts in Maharashtra amid ongoing rainfall in Mumbai that caused waterlogging in residential areas and on highways. Up till July 24, Maharashtra cities are under an IMD red warning.

As the city and the neighbouring districts of Thane, Palghar, and Raigad get ready for further rain on Wednesday, a high tide notice has been issued for the coastal areas of Mumbai.Mumbai's weather is predicted to stay gloomy today with temperatures between 24 and 28 degrees Celsius.

This comes after a recent bout of very heavy rains slammed Mumbai on Monday and Tuesday, causing road water logging and severe traffic jams.Residents in the suburbs also voiced complaints about street water leaking into their houses.

For Wednesday, a red alert has been issued in a few coastal regions of West Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Konkan, and Goa. In the meantime, the districts of Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Hindenburg have been placed on an orange alert for today.
The Brihan Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) cautioned residents not to leave their houses unless there is an emergency and advised them to avoid the city's coastline areas.

The Mumbai Police also sent a warning to the city's citizens, asking them to stay indoors for the day and take appropriate safety precautions as needed.Residents were instructed to dial 100 in case of emergency.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has sent rescue and relief teams to several districts of Maharashtra in response to the state's widespread severe rains.

Vasai (Palghar), Thane, Ghatkopar, Powai (Kurla), Mahahad (Raigad), Khed and Chiplun (Ratnagiri), Kudal (Sindhudurg), Kolhapur, Sangli, and Satara are among the other places where NDRF units have been stationed in addition to Mumbai.

There was a small hiccup in the local train operations due to the heavy rain in Mumbai and the surrounding regions. Some bamboo scaffolding from a nearby building tipped over and fell over the Central Railway's overhead cables (OHE) between the Sion and Matunga stations, delaying some trains.

Over the next five days, heavy rains with thunderstorms and lightning are expected not just in Maharashtra but also throughout the West, Central, East, and South Peninsulas of India.

Parts of Delhi NCR had severe to extremely heavy rains on Wednesday morning. For the next two days, the national capital is under a yellow alert, according to the IMD.
