New Rafale jets and submarines for Navy soon

When Modi visits France

During Prime Minister Narendra Modi's impending trip to France, which starts on July 13, the two countries are set to sign agreements for the delivery of new Rafale warplanes and Scorpene submarines for the Indian Navy.

According to reports, India intends to purchase from France three Scorpene class conventional submarines and 26 Rafale combat jets.

On July 14, PM Modi will be the special guest at France's Bastille Day Parade.

The proposal :

The defense forces have presented the defense ministry with ideas for these purchases, which are anticipated to be made public during Modi's visit to France.

According to the proposals, the Indian Navy will receive four trainer aircraft and 22 single-seat Rafale Marine aircraft.

The urgency

In light of the security concerns across the nation, the Navy has been advocating for the rapid acquisition of these fighter planes and submarines.

The MiG-29s have been used by the aircraft carriers INS Vikramaditya and Vikrant, and both carriers require the use of Rafales for operations.

The Project 75

The Navy will purchase the three Scorpene-class submarines under the repeat clause as part of Project 75, and Mazagon Dockyards Limited in Mumbai would be used to construct them.

The deals are anticipated to be worth more than Rs 90,000 crore, but the precise price will only become known after contract discussions, which will take place after the deal is announced, are concluded.

What next

Similar to how they did for the last Rafale sale for 36 fighter aircraft, India and France are anticipated to form a joint team to negotiate the contract.

Before the announcement in France, the plans are likely to be presented to the defence acquisition council soon and given the government's Acceptance of Necessity.
