22-Year-Old Kolkata Student Claims Her Income Dropped 90% Due To ChatGPT

The 22-year-old revealed that by late 2022, her workload eventually reduced to writing just one or two articles per month and her company did not provide any explanation for the lack of work.

Sharanya Bhattacharya claimed that her pay is down 90% and her family is suffering.

A 22-year-old student from Kolkata recently described how the introduction of the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot ChatGPT significantly altered her life.

In order to pay for her degree, Sharanya Bhattacharya reportedly worked as a ghostwriter and copywriter for a creative solutions agency. She used to purchase a few articles with SEO improvements and make slightly over $240 (about 20,000) per month. However, when ChatGPT entered the picture in November of last year, Ms. Bhattacharya claimed as reported by the source, her life altered.

The 22-year-old stated that by late2022, her firm did not offer a reason for the lack of work, and her workload gradually decreased to just one or two pieces each month.

She stated that the companies who used to commission her work started relying on AI, therefore it is likely that the launch of ChatGPT was made to reduce expenses.

According to the Post, the student stated, "It has been really tough since the reduction in my workload - not just for me but my family, as well.""I can hardly make 10% of what I used to make," she continued.

Ms. Bhattacharya claimed that she and her 45-year-old mother, who sells sarees, are both supported by her salary. The 22-year-old claimed that as soon as the income flow slowed, she and her family were forced to "cut back" on living expenditures. It has "been very difficult," she said.

"We now only have to go out to eat once every few months since we have to watch how much we eat. We also no longer enjoy doing things like going out to eat. To ensure that we could live comfortably, we had to prioritize spending money on necessities like food and bills.Added by Ms. Bhattachary.

According to the student, her life is currently "extremely uncertain" because she could lose her job.I was heartbroken when I started getting less and less work because this is how I make a living while also going to school, she said. She continued, "I have been anxious, feeling lost, having panic attacks, and it has not been a very good couple of months for me."

Additionally, Ms. Bhattacharya emphasized the "huge difference" between human-produced and AI-generated material, according to the Post, and asked businesses to take into account who is impacted by significant job losses.

There are many talented copywriters who are being impacted by this, not just in India but all across the world.I'm hoping that in the future, humans will be able to use AI in conjunction with their own expertise to provide overall, better results.
