Two Indian Pilots Die In 2 Days, 1 At Airport, Another On Flight

A Qatar Airways pilot suffered a cardiac arrest aboard a Delhi-Doha flight.

New Delhi: In just two days, two pilots have passed away in India. While a Qatar Airways pilot had a heart attack yesterday, an IndiGo captain passed out today at a boarding gate in Nagpur. 

The IndiGo captain had arrived at the boarding gate for a flight from Nagpur to Pune and was scheduled to pilot it when he passed out. He was brought to a hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.


According to sources, the pilot flew two sectors yesterday between three and seven in the morning, from Trivandrum to Nagpur via Pune. He was scheduled to fly four sectors today after receiving 27 hours of sleep. He had reported for his first departure of the day at 1 o'clock when he became unresponsive.

We are devastated by the passing of one of our pilots in Nagpur earlier today, IndiGo said in a statement. He became ill at Nagpur Airport and was sent to the hospital, where he tragically died.His family and close friends are in our hearts and prayers.

The Qatar Airways pilot passed away yesterday while serving as an additional crew member in the passenger cabin of a trip between Delhi and Doha. He had previously worked for Sahara, AllianceAir, and SpiceJet.

The deaths have been confirmed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

The occurrences occur just days after a pilot of a commercial airplane carrying 271 passengers from Miami to Chile passed out in the restroom.On Sunday night, an emergency landing was made in Panama, and Captain Ivan Andaur was pronounced deceased by airport medical professionals.
