On land that was taken from Atiq Ahmed, UP CM Adityanath donates 76 apartments to the underprivileged in Prayagraj.

For an inexpensive price of 3.5 lakh, the recipients of these apartments would obtain a dwelling unit with a 41 square metre floor size.
Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, and deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya arrive at a 'Griha Pravesh' on Friday in Prayagraj for 76 apartments built as part of the Pradhan Mantri Awasa Yojna.

Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, officially opened housing units in Prayagraj on Friday that had been built on property that had belonged to the politician-turned-gangster Atiq Ahmed before he was assassinated in April of this year. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, about 76 apartments were constructed in the Lukuarganj neighbourhood. A lottery mechanism was used to distribute these apartments, and it took place on June 9.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) vice chairman Arvind Kumar Chauhan stated, "The lottery for allotment was conducted in the auditorium of Allahabad Medical Association. 1590 applications were deemed to be qualified to participate in the lottery after 6030 applicants were verified.

For an inexpensive price of 3.5 lakh, the recipients of these apartments would obtain a dwelling unit with a 41 square metre floor size. According to the officials, a two-bedroom home with a kitchen and bathroom costs Rs. 6 lakh.

Adityanath chatted with the ceremony goers and gave sweets to their kids before the apartment was handed off. One of the workers claimed that over the previous ten days, intensive preparations had been made in order to welcome the chief minister and open the housing units.

Watch: Visuals of flats

The interior of the apartments were shown in a video posted by the news organisation ANI. The assigned person's name is clearly visible as one approaches the house. The apartments have two rooms, a small kitchen and a bathroom within. Following the inauguration, the chief minister could be seen examining the apartments in another video.

Strict security precautions were put in place for the ceremony, and the buildings were decorated before the inauguration. At the entrance to the apartments, a sign reading "Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana" could be seen.

When was the foundation laid?

On December 26, 2021, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath laid the cornerstone for this house development on a 1731-square-meter parcel of land in Prayagraj's Lukerganj neighbourhood. According to authorities, the District Urban Development Authorities (DUDA) initiated this project as part of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), which led to the building of 76 apartments split into two blocks.

Construction took underway on the confiscated property that was once held by Atiq Ahmed, who was accused of killing BSP MLA Raju Pal in 2005 and then killing Umesh Pal, a crucial witness, in February of the same year.

On the evening of April 15, three people posing as journalists fatally shot Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed as they were being driven to Prayagraj for a medical examination.
