'AI, disruptive technologies will increase gravity of cyber risks': NSA Ajit Doval at BRICS meet

NSA Ajit Doval highlighted the need for collective efforts to deal with challenges emerging from cybersecurity.

The NSA level meeting is in the run-up to the summit on August 22-24

Ajit Doval, the national security adviser (NSA), was present at the 'Friends of BRICS' gathering on Monday in Johannesburg, South Africa. The topic of cybersecurity was extensively covered throughout the meeting. Along with the BRICS, the following Friends of BRICS nations also took part in the discussions: Belarus, Burundi, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kazakhstan, and Cuba.

Doval emphasized the necessity for group efforts to address the problems arising from cybersecurity. "It is especially important for the Global South to overcome resource constraints. India will continue to lead the way and collaborate closely with the Global South in this area, he added.

Doval emphasized the fact that disruptive technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and the internet of things will cause an exponential rise in the seriousness of cyber dangers.

He discussed the relationship between online criminals and terrorists, including how they utilize the internet to recruit, finance, radicalize, and carry out lone wolf attacks.

"The younger population was particularly vulnerable to the spread of extremist ideologies via social media sites as they are technology savvy and have impressionable minds," he observed.

Doval also had numerous one-on-one conferences with his BRICS and Friends of BRICS colleagues.
