Ajit Pawar’s shocker for NCP, takes oath as Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister

Nationalist Congress Party leader Ajit Pawar, along with nine MLAs, joined the Maharashtra government on Sunday. The move comes days after Ajit Pawar expressed his desire to step down as Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly.

Ajit Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party, entered the Maharashtra administration as the deputy chief minister on Sunday with the support of numerous MLAs. Together with BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis, he will share the position.

Nine NCP politicians in all, including Chhagan Bhujbal, Dhananjay Munde, and Dilip Walse Patil, took the oath of office as ministers with Ajit Pawar at the Raj Bhawan ceremony.

Ajit Pawar announced his intention to resign as leader of the opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly a few days prior to the significant change.

Out of the total 53 NCP MLAs in the state, 30 are with Ajit Pawar, PTI reported. He needs to have the support of more than 36 MLAs to escape the provisions of the anti defection law.

The Maharashtra Cabinet will now have nine ministers from the BJP, nine from Shiv Sena and nine from the NCP, including the chief minister and two deputy chief ministers. It can have a maximum of 43 members.

Earlier in the day, Ajit Pawar met some party leaders and MLAs at his official residence in Mumbai but NCP chief Sharad Pawar was not aware of the meeting
