Bihar: Two Chinese nationals held for trying to enter India illegally
Two Chinese citizens were detained for trying to enter India without proper documentation at the Indo-Nepal border in the East Champaran district of Bihar . Immigration authorities believe espionage was the driving force behind their move, which is presently unclear. The two had attempted to enter the border illegally previously.
Two Chinese nationals were detained on Saturday by security officers who were attempting to cross into India from Raxaul in the East Champaran region of Bihar.
Zhao Jing and FU Cong, two Chinese nationals who reside in Jiangxi, a province in the east of China, were apprehended at 8.45 p.m.
On Saturday while attempting to enter India without proper documentation, according to East Champaran Superintendent of Police (SP) Kantesh Kumar Mishra.
"The motivation for their action could not be determined. Interrogation is taking place, the SP stated.
The potential of 'espionage' as the cause of their unauthorized entry into Indian territory from the other side of the border was not entirely excluded by immigration officials stationed at the border.
They behaved strangely during the interrogation, said the reporter. Although one of them speaks English well, their statements are confusing and inconsistent, according to an immigration official who spoke on the record.
The two had previously made an unsuccessful attempt to cross the border, according to the officials.
"They were earlier captured on July 2 of this year. They were released after that with a warning and instructed to enter Indian territory with visas, according to the immigration official.
