BJP chief writes to Chirag Paswan to attend NDA meeting on July 18. His response
Union Minister Nityanand Rai met with Chirag Paswan on Friday night for the second time in a week
The development is seen as the BJP's outreach to LJP's Chirag Paswan to bring him back to the NDA after he left the alliance in Bihar during the 2020 state Assembly polls.
JP Nadda, the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has invited Chirag Paswan, the leader of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) meeting on July 18 in Delhi. The next meeting takes place as the Opposition works to unite in a show of strength in preparation for taking on the administration led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Lok Sabha elections next year.
In the letter, Nadda claimed that the regional party is a crucial member of the NDA and a crucial ally in the administration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's campaign for the advancement and welfare of the underprivileged.
The development is considered as the BJP's attempt to reach out to Chirag Paswan in an effort to persuade him to rejoin the NDA after he broke away from the coalition in Bihar in 2020 to compete against the Janata Dal (United), which was formerly the saffron party's main ally, in the state Assembly elections.
"We'll make a choice in the end after talking to the party leaders. We have occasionally supported the BJP on several topics, but the ultimate decision regarding whether to attend the NDA meeting or not would be made after meeting with party leaders, according to Chirag Paswan, according to news agency ANI.
There is much talk that the BJP will put Chirag Paswan, the son of the late former union minister Ram Vilas Paswan, in the federal government. He just received Z category protection after the Intelligence Bureau noted threats to his life in its assessment.
For the second time in a week, Chirag Paswan and Union minister Nityanand Rai met on Friday night. A letter from Nadda inviting Chirag Paswan to the NDA meeting was also shared by the LJP(R).
Chirag Paswan was seen as having succeeded in holding onto the party's loyal vote base, signaling to the BJP his importance in a state where it is up against the formidable coalition of the RJD, JD(U), Congress, and the Left, which split the LJP under the leadership of his uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras, now a Union minister.
The younger Paswan has also consistently backed the BJP on important topics.
The Nationalist Congress Party (NDP) faction led by Ajit Pawar, the Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, other smaller parties from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, and regional parties from the northeastern states are among those who are anticipated to attend the NDA meeting.
The conference on July 18 is also anticipated to include former Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, whose Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) party was welcomed back into the NDA fold.
PM Modi would probably attend the summit as well.
