Over the weekend, a group of MPs from the INDIA bloc of parties will visit the violently divided Manipur, opposition lawmakers told Hindustan Times on Thursday.
On Saturday and Sunday, the MPs will be in the northeastern state, according to the leaders.Manipur has been the scene of ethnic skirmishes between the Meitis and Kukis since the first week of May, and the BJP-led state administration has come under scrutiny for failing to put an end to the bloodshed.
In response to the ongoing violence and its inaction against the state's N Biren Singh-led administration, the BJP-led central government has also come under fire.
Meanwhile, the forthcoming trip to Manipur by Indian lawmakers will occur almost exactly one month to the day after Congressman Rahul Gandhi visited the region (June 29, 30) and spoke with victims and civil society organizations.
INDIA turns up in ‘black’
In a show of protest against the Indian prime minister Narendra Modi's persistent silence on the Manipur problem, members of the Indian parliament showed up to Parliament on Thursday dressed in all-black clothes. On the other hand, the government reiterated that it was prepared for a conversation and accused the opposition of trying to avoid a discussion.
PM Modi has only mentioned the problem once up to this point. He talked to the media on July 20, the first day of the current monsoon session of Parliament, before the proceedings began. Two women were paraded naked and subjected to mob sexual assault in a video that had leaked a day earlier from Manipur.
On the other hand, the opposition asserts that the PM only spoke for 36 seconds outside the House. They contend that he must consequently provide a thorough statement inside the House.
The INDIA Bloc
For the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, there are 26 opposing coalitions in this coalition, including the Congress. The political parties have banded together to oppose Prime Minister Modi as well as the BJP and stop them from obtaining a third straight term in power at the Center.
