Indigenously-made missile corvette INS Khanjar scheduled for 3-day visit to Sri Lanka's Trincomalee
The ship has been opened for a public visit at Trincomalee Port on July 31. After its departure, a Maritime Partnership Exercise with Sri Lanka Navy Ship will be conducted.
INS Khanjar to visit Sri Lanka's Trincomalee today
The Indian High Commission in Colombo announced on Friday that the homegrown missile corvette Indian Naval Ship (INS) 'Khanjar' is slated for a three-day visit to Trincomalee in Sri Lanka starting on July 29.
The Eastern Naval Area Commander will be called upon by the ship's commanding officer, Commander NVS Phani Kumar, according to a statement from the Indian High Commission, and numerous professional exchanges on VBSS, Gunnery, and Missile Operations will take place.
Additionally, a reception will be held on board for key military and civil administration officers. On July 31 off Trincomalee, a maritime partnership exercise with a Sri Lanka Navy ship has also been scheduled after its departure.
At the Trincomalee Port, the ship will be accessible to the general public, including schoolchildren.Additionally, it will run a yoga class, clean the beach, and support a special school in Trincomalee.
According to the statement, "the visit of the Indian Naval Ship Khanjar, a Khukri-Class Corvette, is also significant in light of the potential for cooperation between India and Sri Lanka for enhancing capabilities of Sri Lanka Navy for effectively addressing shared challenges for maritime security in the region."
INS Khanjar rescued 36 stranded fishermen from Bay of Bengal
36 Indian fisherman were earlier successfully rescued by the INS Khanjar from the Bay of Bengal, 130 nautical miles off the coast of Tamil Nadu.Due to terrible weather, a lack of fuel, food, and supplies, as well as an engine failure, the fisherman had been in danger for more than two days.
When a government-owned research vessel encountered technical issues while en route from Goa to Karwar, it trapped its 36 passengers—28 crew members and 8 scientists. The Indian Coast Guard personnel moved swiftly to rescue and bring the stranded people to safety.
