Khalistan Rally In Canada Overshadowed By Pro-India Gathering

Members of the Indian community waved the national flag and raised slogans like "Bharat Mata ki jai", "Vande Mataram" and "Long Live India"

Toronto: Today's pro-Khalistan rally in Toronto was a bust despite some members of the Indian community congregating there with the flag of their country.

There were a few pro-Khalistan protesters outside the Indian embassy in Toronto, Canada today, but they were overpowered by Indian community members who waved the flag and chanted "Bharat Mata ki jai," "Vande Mataram," and "Long Live India."

The Sikhs For Justice leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was assassinated in the UK on June 18, was depicted on posters by the Khalistani organisation.

By referring to India's High Commissioner to Ottawa, Sanjay Kumar Verma, and Consul General to Toronto, Apoorva Srivastava, as the "killers" of Khalistan Tiger Force leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, the "Khalistan freedom rally" banner earlier this month caused fury throughout India.

It happened a month after Khalistanis displayed a tableau of the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi with blood on her clothes and a placard that said, "Revenge of attack on Shri Darbar Sahib" to commemorate the 39th anniversary of Operation Blue Star.

On Monday, India summoned Canada's ambassador to New Delhi and sent him a demarche in response to the country's increased involvement with pro-Khalistani activities.
