Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday retorted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ‘for the family’ jibe at the Opposition unity meeting.

Uddhav Thackeray addresses after mega opposition meet

In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remark that "the entire country is our family and we are fighting for it," Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray said on Tuesday at the Opposition unity conference, "Yes, the entire country is our family and we are fighting for it" - without mentioning PM Modi by name.

The opposition meeting in Bengaluru was the target of a vicious attack earlier in the day from PM Modi, who said that "their mantra is - of, by, and for family."

"They (the opposing parties) do not care about the growth of the country's underprivileged youngsters. Their family's common minimum program is to enhance corruption. They just have this ideology and this agenda. 'Of the people, by the people, and for the people' is what democracy means. However, the slogan of these dynastic parties is "of the family, by the family, for the family." For "To them, their family comes first and the nation is nothing," he said while virtually opening the Veer Savarkar Airport's new integrated terminal building.

After the massive opposition party meeting, Hackeray told the media, "People are afraid of what will happen next. We want to reassure them that we are here, so they need not be concerned. All people are the country; only one person or one party cannot be it.

"Main Hoon Na" is the name of a film. They need to know that "Hum Hain Na" (we are here). No need to worry, he continued.

Thackeray emphasised that the meeting was successful while thanking Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge for presiding over it.The next gathering of the opposition parties, he continued, will take place in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

Opposition alliance becomes INDIA

On Tuesday, Kharge declared that the coalition of opposition parties will be known as the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) and that a secretariat would be established in Delhi to oversee the election campaign. The names of the 11 members of the coordination committee were also published, and they will be considered at the conference in Mumbai.
