Seat-Sharing Plan For 2024 Polls, Monsoon Session Agenda At Opposition Meet

The Opposition is trying to iron out their differences and project a united front in next year's general elections.

At a meeting today in Bengaluru, top leaders from 24 opposition parties are expected to develop a strategy to compete with the BJP in the forthcoming Monsoon Session of the parliament and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The opposition leaders are anticipated to undertake discussions to resolve their disagreements and show a united face for the general elections in the following year.

According to reports, there is a suggestion to form a subcommittee for the Opposition coalition to write a single minimum platform and communication points for the general elections in 2024.

Also on the agenda is a name suggestion from the opposition leaders.

The Aam Aadmi Party yesterday declared that they would also attend the meeting after weeks of deliberation.

AAP made the declaration shortly after the Congress publicly backed the party's campaign against a controversial government decree that reclaimed control of Delhi's bureaucracy.

"The Congress party today clarified its stance on the Delhi Ordinance. We appreciate the news. Additionally, according to AAP leader Raghav Chadha, AAP would join the opposition meeting in Bengaluru.

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), led by Sharad Pawar, split, and the West Bengal panchayat elections saw widespread violence that claimed many lives, with state units of the Congress and Left parties accusing the Trinamool Congress government of oppression in the background of the opposition meeting.

On June 23, Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, hosted the final gathering for opposition unity in Patna.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the current government, is holding a mega-meeting in New Delhi at the same time as the Opposition meeting, in an effort to demonstrate its size ahead of the general elections in 2024.

The NDA anticipates that before the Monsoon Session starts on July 20, close to 30 parties would reaffirm their support for the alliance.
