Victim Of Circumstances': Mamata Banerjee On Deaths During Panchayat Polls, Dubs BJP's Fact-Finding Team As 'Provocation Committees'

West Bengal Violence: Banerjee announced a compensation of Rs. 2 lakh and a position as a home guard for one of the family members while acknowledging the deaths of 19 individuals in the violence during the panchayat elections. She also called the BJP's fact-finding team "provocation committees" and attacked them.

West Bengal Violence : Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, has criticized the BJP for sending a fact-finding team to the violent state to evaluate the situation there. Banerjee promised a compensation of Rs 2 lakh and a position as a home guard for one of the family members while acknowledging the deaths of 19 persons in the violence during the panchayat elections.

When speaking to the media, the chief minister of West Bengal asked, "Where was the fact-finding team when Manipur was burning? When Assam was on fire because of NRC, where was this team? How many commissioners made trips to these locations? Nearly 154 teams have visited West Bengal in less than two years. These committees are BJP provocateurs, not fact-finding ones. It is regrettable that so many people perished (during the WB Panchayat elections). They are the victims of their environment. I've ordered the police to act.

A specific home guard position and a Rs. 2 lakh compensation will be given to the 19 people who passed away. Ten of these are from TMC. All people who have passed away will receive compensation and employment from the government, and we won't make distinctions based on the party they support, she continued.

The West Bengal Chief Minister praised the TMC's significant victory in the rural polls, saying, "People are accustomed to casting ballots in ballot boxes, but EVMS are now being utilized in Panchayat polls...People making accusations against us ought to provide evidence from another state where 700 booths were re-elected.

BJP Sends Fact-Finding Team To Bengal

Ravi Shankar Prasad is leading a fact-finding mission that the BJP has sent to Bengal in the meantime. Prasad asked Mamata Banerjee what kind of election was held during her administration as he criticized her for using violence during the panchayat elections. These kinds of instances used to occur in Bihar and UP in the past, but they have all stopped there. Rahul Gandhi, leader of the Congress, was also criticized by the BJP for his silence on the violence in Bengal. "I want to question Rahul Gandhi: Why does he remain mute while party members in Bengal are being beaten? 48 persons were killed during the West Bengal Panchayat elections, which Prasad called "a terrible indication of a shameful democracy.
