"When They Return From Manipur...": BJP's Dare To Visiting Opposition MPs

Manipur violence: The Opposition leaders, on a two-day visit, landed in Imphal this afternoon. They will take a chopper to Churachandpur, said sources.

    At least 180 people have died since violence broke out in Manipur on May 3.


New Delhi: A 21-member opposition delegation is currently in Manipur to investigate the situation there. Ethnic violence has been raging in the northeastern state for about three months. They stated that they would present the victims' testimonies to parliament.


After visiting a relief center, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said to reporters, "They are talking about investigations by CBI (into the crimes committed)... I would like to know if the central government has been sleeping up to this point. 

The delegation will speak with representatives of both communities, according to TMC leader Sushmita Dev. The voices of everybody must be heard. We're going to talk to Kukis and Meiteis, too," she said.

The delegation also comprises Sushmita Dev of the Trinamool, Kanimozhi of the DMK, Manoj Kumar Jha of the RJD, and Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh, the leader of the JDU.They are making their first trip to the state since the Opposition front INDIA was established.

They were there at the same time that Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey visited Churachandpur and spoke with victims, assuring them of the safety and support of the BJP-led central government and the state administration.

On a two-day tour, the opposition leaders arrived in Imphal this afternoon and took a helicopter to Churachandpur.They met Kuki tribe leaders, members of civic society, and women's organizations there, according to sources.Before returning to Imphal, the group met with Meitei community members and visited relief camps to meet with victims of violence, according to sources.

In addition to criticizing the opposition lawmakers, the BJP has repeated the alleged mistreatment of women in Rajasthan and West Bengal. This is simply for show. I want to ask Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury if he supports the crimes against women in his state of West Bengal when this I.N.D.I.A. returns from Manipur. Will these 20 I.N.D.I.A. (front) MPs also provide reports on Rajasthan and West Bengal?, Union Minister Anurag Thakur questioned.

Gaurav Gogoi of the Congress stated, "We will present the victims' testimonies in parliament. We would have been pleased if the PM had taken an all-party delegation to Manipur. However, India is here to be among the people, unlike his NDA counterparts who have never visited. 

Since the Monsoon Session began this month, the Manipur issue has caused a stalemate in parliament, with the Opposition MPs demanding a lengthy discussion on it as well as a statement from the Prime Minister in parliament.However, the center has claimed that Amit Shah, the home minister, will address the opposition.

The Congress is expected to introduce a no-confidence move against the government in the parliament.The resolution has been approved by the Lok Sabha Speaker, but a date for the no-trust vote has not yet been determined.

A big rally was organized by the influential civil society organization COCOMI with the participation of thousands of members of other communities as part of a significant show of strength by the Meitei community in Imphal.They demanded an NRC exercise and asked for Manipur's territorial integrity to be protected.

The N Biren Singh administration, which has so far defied calls for resignation, has made the decision to call an assembly meeting for the end of this month or the beginning of August. Since the violence started on May 3, at least 180 people have died and hundreds have been forced to flee their homes.
