Jeddah, Saudi Arabia: Ajit Doval, National Security Adviser, has arrived in Jeddah to attend a summit of national security advisers and other officials hosted by Saudi Arabia today to discuss the current Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Suhel Khan, Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, and Consul General Mohammed Shahid Alam greeted Ajit Doval at Jeddah Airport.

"NSA Shri Ajit Doval arrived in Jeddah to participate in a meeting of National Security Advisers on Ukraine." "Ambassador Dr Suhel Khan and Consul General Mohd Shahid Alam greeted him at Jeddah Airport," the Indian Embassy in Riyadh stated on Twitter.

The gathering is being held in the Saudi coastal city of Jeddah to discuss Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's peace plan in the midst of the ongoing conflict with Russia.

The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed India's attendance in the conference on Friday.

"India will participate in this event," said MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi, "and our participation is consistent with our long-standing position that dialogue and diplomacy are the way forward."

"Yes,India has been invited to a meeting on Ukraine being hosted by Saudi Arabia in Jeddah," Bagchi said in response to a query during a Ministry of ExternalAffairs press briefing.

According to Russia's state-run Tass news agency, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitri Peskov, "Russia will keep an eye on this meeting" but needs "to fully understand what goals are being set."

The Wall Street Journal first reported on the summit on July 29, citing "diplomats involved in the discussion," and stated that the meetings will take place on August 5 and 6, in the city of Jeddah, with 30 countries in attendance.

According to the WSJ, Ukrainian and Western officials are confident that the efforts will culminate in a peace summit later this year at which global leaders would sign up to shared principles for ending the war.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the 30 invitees for the Jeddah summit include Chile, Egypt, the European Union, Indonesia, Mexico, Poland, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Zambia.

According to Al Jazeera, Zelenskyy's chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, indicated on Sunday that officials from various countries will attend the Saudi conference but did not specify when or where the meeting would take place.

On Telegram, Yermak stated that conversations will take place on the Ukrainian Peace Formula, which "contains ten fundamental points, the implementation of which will not only ensure peace in Ukraine, but also create mechanisms to counter future conflicts in the world."

"We are absolutely certain that the Ukrainian peace agreement should be taken as a basis because the war takes place on our land," Yermak told Al Jazeera.

India has consistently maintained that the Russia-Ukraine crisis must be handled via dialogue and diplomacy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also stated that "India is ready to do whatever it can for a peaceful resolution of the conflict."

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, escalating the Russo-Ukrainian War that begun in 2014. Tens of thousands of people were slaughtered on both sides of the invasion. Russian military have been accused of killing a large number of civilians and torturing captive Ukrainian soldiers.
