Ajit Pawar's NCP Symbol Claim "Malafide": Sharad Pawar Camp To Poll Body

"Ajit Pawar has not been able to demonstrate even prima facie that there exists a dispute In NCP," claimed the Sharad Pawar faction

Ajit Pawar loyalists claim they hope to persuade Sharad Pawar to back their decision.

New Delhi: The electoral commission has been informed by the Sharad Pawar camp that Ajit Pawar's request for the Nationalist Congress Party's election symbol is "premature" and "malafide" and needs to be denied. They said that his "petition" to the Election Commission "does not reflect or evidence the presence of two factions of NCP."

Last month, Ajit Pawar and his allies joined the BJP-Eknath Shinde coalition in Maharashtra and took the oath of office as ministers.

They assert that since they have the backing of the majority of the party's MLAs, they are the true NCP, much like the Sena group led by Eknath Shinde.

He has headed a faction that has approached the Election Commission to assert its ownership of the party name and electoral symbol.

They have informed the Election Commission that a resolution dated June 30, 2023, signed by a "overwhelming majority" of party members, elected Ajit Pawar to lead the NCP.

"Ajit Pawar has not been able to establish even a prima facie disagreement," "The Sharad Pawar faction has argued," reads a copy of the Sharad Pawar camp's petition, which is with NDTV.

"ECI has also not taken any prima facie determination that there is any dispute existing between NCP culminated by its National President Shri Sharad Pawar and the former participants in the NCP (being led by Ajit Pawar).

Before July 1, 2023, Ajit Pawar did not complain about Sharad Pawar or the NCP, nor did he ask to meet with Sharad Pawar or any other NCP leader.

"As of the date (1.7.2023) of filing, the 'Petition' does not reflect or evidence the presence of two factions of NCP," the Sharad Pawar camp has said.

To convince Sharad Pawar to support their choice to join Maharashtra's ruling coalition, the supporters of Ajit Pawar assert that they are one and the same party and are not a faction.

"I don't want to speak about anything pertaining to our internal party problems... We still view Sharad Pawar as our hero, and we want him to approve of the political course we have chosen. Praful Patel, a former supporter of Sharad Pawar, has assured the media on numerous occasions: "We will persuade him.
