Mumbai: Property owned by actor and current BJP member Sunny Deol has been put up for auction by state-owned Bank of Baroda in an effort to raise 56 crore through an online auction that will take place on August 25.

The Gurdaspur MP has been in default on a $55.99 million loan from the bank, plus interest and penalties, since December 2012, the second largest state-owned lender said in a public tender on Sunday. The Gurdaspur MP's most recent film, Gaddar 2, has already made over $300 million worldwide since its release last week.

The Sunny Villa, a property that the bank has attached and is located on Gandhigram Road in the exclusive Juhu neighborhood of the megacity, has a reserve price of 51.43 crore and a 5.14 crore earnest money deposit.

The auction notice states that in addition to Sunny Villa, the 599.44 square meter property also contains Sunny Sounds, which is owned by the Deols and is the corporate guarantor to the loan. Dharmendra, the actor-politician father, is the personal guarantee of the debt.

When contacted by PTI for additional information—including when, how much, and what other guarantees the bank has for the loan because the actor's property is worth less than the total amount he or she owes the bank—a bank spokeswoman declined to provide any.

The Deols still have the option, according to the tender notice, of paying their debts to the bank in order to stop the auction from taking place in accordance with the rules of the Sarfaesi Act of 2002.
