The achievement of Chandrayaan-3, which landed at the south pole region of the Moon—a feat that had not yet been accomplished—has India receiving praise from all corners of the globe.Cheers and congratulations could be heard at the ground station as the success was acknowledged. 

But bogus messages also began to proliferate on social media and on WhatsApp and other online sites. While ISRO scientists were waiting for the Pragyan rover to emerge from the Vikram lander at the appropriate moment, social media users had already posted a picture of the two payloads on the lunar surface.

Vikram is seen on the Moon's surface in another bogus film that is quickly gaining popularity. In the backdrop, a blue Earth is rising. Some users claimed it was clicked by a NASA satellite in the caption.


When a video allegedly depicted the entirety of Vikram Ac's landing as being caught by a NASA satellite, the American space agency was once more implicated. The quickly circulating video was really of the Apollo-11 landing on the Moon years ago, as we discovered when we fact-checked it. 



Furthering the claim, several individuals uploaded an image of King Ashoka's Lion Capital, the official Indian flag, combined with the ISRO insignia inside the tread marks, which they said was the rover. 



And a few of these pictures were published before Chandrayaan-3's landing on the moon.

The declared goals of Chandrayaan-3, India's third lunar mission, are in-situ scientific experiments and a rover travelling across the moon's surface. 


The development phase of Chandrayaan-3 started in January 2020, and the launch was scheduled for some time in 2021.The mission's advancement encountered difficulties by the Covid-19 pandemic.
