He Killed Woman To Fake Married Lover's Death So They Could Elope: Police

The accused, Umesh Sahu, killed his long-time patient and kept her body in a refrigerator at his clinic on August 14, the police said.


  Three people have been arrested under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code .


Durg, Chhattisgarh: In order to fake his married girlfriend's death and elope with her, a 37-year-old "self-styled doctor" allegedly killed a patient in Chhattisgarh's Durg district on Monday, according to the police.

According to a spokesperson, Umesh Sahu, his girlfriend Supriya Yadav, 32, and their accomplice Pradeep Janghel, 36, were all apprehended by police on Sunday for the murder of Surja Bai Markam.


On August 14, Mr. Sahu allegedly killed Ms. Markam, a longtime patient, and held her body in a refrigerator inside his clinic. He claimed that the following night, the accused drove the body to Durg with Mr. Janghel.

The victim was then brought to Supriya Yadav's home, where the three planted her jewelry on her before setting her ablaze in the home's storeroom, according to the official.

On the night between August 15 and August 16, Ms. Yadav's in-laws discovered a woman's burned body in the storage, and they reported it to the police.

According to the official, they recognized Supriya Yadav's jewelry on the body and believed that she had perished in the fire.

According to him, Ms. Yadav's family was informed by one of her cousins on August 16 that she had been discovered unconscious between the villages of Khairagarh and Jalbandha and had been carried to her parents' home.

The police detained Supriya Yadav, a mother of two, during the investigation to identify the victim. They discovered that she intended to elope with Umesh Sahu, and the couple came up with this complex scheme to fake her death, the source said.
