Nagpur: Judge Rohit Deo of the Bombay High Court announced his resignation on Friday and stated that it was for personal reasons.
According to a lawyer present, Justice Deo made the declaration in his courtroom in Nagpur, where the high court has a bench, and stated that he could not compromise on self-respect.
The issues that were put before him for the day were discharged after the announcement.
"To those of you who are in the court, I sincerely apologize. You were reprimanded because I want you to get better.I'm sorry to inform you that I have filed my resignation.

Later, on speaking to reporters, the judge explained that he had resigned for personal reasons and had sent a letter of resignation to the Indian President.
Justice Deo cleared former Delhi University professor GN Saibaba of all charges in a case involving alleged Maoist ties in 2022, overturning the life sentence that had been imposed on him and stating that the trial had been invalidated by the lack of a valid sanction under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Later, the Supreme Court stayed the decision and mandated that the Nagpur High Court bench rehear the case.
Earlier this week, Justice Deo blocked the implementation of a Maharashtra Government Resolution (order) from January 3 that gave the state the authority to drop legal actions brought by the revenue department against contractors working on the Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Expressway for illegally excavating minor minerals.
Justice Deo was scheduled to retire from the Bombay High Court in December 2025 after being appointed as a judge in June 2017.
He was the Advocate General of Maharashtra prior to that in 2016.
