In South Africa for the BRICS Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Wednesday and the two had a "fruitful" bilateral discussion.

PM Modi claims that the meeting's main topics included investments in agriculture, defense, and health as well as a wide range of topics targeted at strengthening India-South Africa relations. Dr. S. Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs for India, attended the meeting behind closed doors.

"Meeting with President Cyril Ramaphosa was fantastic. We spoke on a variety of topics aimed at strengthening ties between South Africa and India. Links between trade, defense, and investment took center stage in our conversations. Following the meeting, the PM tweeted, "We will keep collaborating to increase the voice of the Global South as well.

It is important to note that the phrase "Global South" is a euphemism for phrases like "developing countries," "least developed countries," "underdeveloped countries," "low-income economies," and "third-world countries that are out of favor." Typically, it consists of Nigeria and Mexico, as well as Brazil, India, Indonesia, and China.

What are the issues that both leaders discussed?

Notably, South Africa and India are commemorating 30 years of diplomatic ties. Arindam Bagchi, a spokesperson for the MEA, stated on social media that the leaders also reviewed bilateral cooperation in the fields of defense, agriculture, trade and investment, health, conservation, and interpersonal relationships.

The spokesperson also insisted that the leaders discussed regional and global problems, such as South Africa's BRICS leadership and India's G20 presidency.
