Russia-Ukraine war: 7 killed, 81 injured in Moscow's 'double-tap' attacks in Donetsk region

The 'double-tap' military tactic refers to striking the same area again after a period of 30 to 40 minutes, targeting emergency rescue workers.

Authorities reported on Tuesday that at least 7 people were killed and 81 more hurt as a result of Russian "double-tap" missile strikes on Pokrovsk city on Monday in the partially seized Donetsk area. According to Donetsk Governor Pavlo Kyrylenko, the two missiles struck the city center 40 minutes apart.

One emergency worker and a member of the military were among those killed, while two children, 31 police officers, and seven other emergency workers were among those hurt, according to Kyrylenko. The strikes used Iskander missiles, which have a sophisticated guidance system.

The 'double-tap' strategy, which frequently targets emergency workers stationed at the targeted places, was previously employed by Russia in the civil war in Syria and has been utilized frequently in Ukraine since the conflict there started last year.

Ivan Vyhivskyi, the head of Ukraine's National Police, claimed that Russia had targeted rescue personnel on purpose and claimed that all of the police had been dispatched because they were needed to assist with the first strike's rescue operations.

They had to move quickly, excavate, find, and save the injured because they were aware that they were hidden beneath the debris. And the second strike was made intentionally by the enemy.

Up to 12 multi-story buildings, as well as a hotel and a pharmacy, were damaged in the assaults, leading Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to accuse Moscow of leaving only "broken and scorched stones" in the eastern portion of the country. However, CNN stated that the well-known hotel affected by the second strike had been vacant for five weeks.

According to the State Emergency Service, rescue efforts near a damaged five-story residential structure were also in progress by Tuesday as debris clearing had resumed.

Russia was charged with carrying out a double-tap attack in Kharkiv as well as other "clear patterns" of violations of international humanitarian law by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in a report last year. Numerous civilian places have been hit by Russian fire and missiles.

The most recent assaults come after shelling in the northern Kharkiv region overnight resulted in two fatalities and nine injuries. Additionally, four Russian "guided bombs" were dropped on a settlement close to Kupainsk in Kharkiv.

After Russia made the decision to cancel a critical grain contract that permits the export of agricultural products from Ukraine to other nations, the conflict in Ukraine intensified.
