Following a request by an umbrella organization of key militant groups to boycott the Independence Day celebrations and a shutdown, security measures have been stepped up throughout the violent Manipur.

The groups have been pushing for Manipur's independence.
Auto-rickshaw torched
Unknown miscreants set a taxi rickshaw on fire on Saturday in the Porompat Pangal Leirak neighborhood of Imphal East district. According to reports, the driver of the car was transporting items for some Kuki villagers when a mob stopped it and set it on fire. The incident didn't result in any injuries.
For further information on the event, HT contacted top Imphal East district police officials. But they made no reply.
