Video: Chinese President Xi Jinping Arrives For BRICS Meeting, This Happens Next

The Chinese president seemed confused and repeatedly looked back, but the doors had already closed.

It is unclear what caused the confusion

At the BRICS Summit, there was an unexpected incident that left Chinese President Xi Jinping perplexed as his aide was halted by security agents.

Mr. Jinping is seen strolling toward the hall in a video that has gone popular on social media. A man, thought to be a member of the Chinese security staff, started sprinting after the Chinese president as he entered a hallway. A South African security official barred him from entering as soon as he got close to Xi because his moves sparked suspicion.

The Chinese president appeared perplexed and glanced back repeatedly, but the doors had already shut.

It is unclear what led to the miscommunication, however some accounts claim that the security official served as Xi Jinping's official interpreter.

On Thursday during the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping were spotted shaking hands and having a brief talk with one another.

PM Modi and the Chinese Premier were seen walking and conversing before they sat down to issue a joint statement of the 15th BRICS Summit by the group's leaders.

The two presidents were also seen shaking hands on stage after the briefing.

Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates will join the BRICS starting in January 2024, it was revealed today during the summit.
