The missile strikes were among multiple Russian attacks across Ukraine overnight. The strikes come days after 16 people were killed in an attack on a market in eastern Ukraine and drone debris was found in Romania.

Russia-Ukraine war:  On Friday, September 8, a Russian missile attack on the hometown of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy resulted in the death of one police officer and at least 52 injuries, according to officials.

Three people were killed in a second attack in the southern Kherson region.

The missile attacks were just one of many that Russia allegedly launched against Ukraine overnight.

Local elections in the places it has invaded as well as others that it does not control are another way Moscow is aiming to boost its political influence. In a statement, the foreign ministry of Ukraine announced that it did not recognise the "fake elections."

The missile strikes come days after a market attack in eastern Ukraine claimed the lives of 16 people and drone debris was discovered in Romania.

Residents in the area began to worry that the war would expand to the NATO member nation neighbouring Ukraine as a result.

Ten buildings were damaged in the most recent attack on Zelenskyy's hometown of Kryvyi Rih on Friday.

Ihor Klymenko, Ukraine's minister of internal affairs, reported that three survivors of the rubble were in critical condition.

In the images that Klymenko posted on Telegram, a burning structure and emergency personnel rescuing injured people could be seen.

"Three people were also killed Friday after a Russian bomb struck the village of Odradokamianka in the Kherson region of southern Ukraine," the Minister stated.

Elections are held by Russia in Ukraine's seized territories.
In an effort to further consolidate its influence over the territories, Russia is holding local elections this weekend in the occupied regions of Ukraine that it annexed a year ago but still does not fully control.

On September 10, voting for the regional legislatures in the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions will begin on Friday and end on Sunday.Ukraine and the West have condemned the move by the nation led by Vladimir Putin.

The Council of Europe, the leading organisation for human rights on the continent, stated last week that it "constitutes a flagrant violation of international law, which Russia continues to disregard."

According to a statement from the Ukrainian Parliament, voting in places where Russia "conducts active hostilities" puts Ukrainian lives at danger. The parliamentarians pleaded with other nations not to accept the election results.

As a result of Russia's departure from a Black Sea grain agreement and its attacks on Ukraine's grain supply, Britain on Friday announced that it will hold a summit on global food security in November.

The announcement was made as British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak arrived in India for a summit of the Group of 20, where he intends to rally support from around the world to lessen the effects of the war on the world's food supply.
