Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will take part in the 23rd SCO Council of Heads of State (CHS) Meeting, which will be conducted via video conference on July 4, 2023, according to a release.
On the invitation of his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will attend a virtual meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit on July 4, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry stated on Friday.
Shehbaz Sharif's attendance in the summit, according to a statement, demonstrates the great value Pakistan has on the SCO, a crucial venue for regional security and development and increased engagement with the area.
It stated that Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister, would take part in the 23rd meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State (CHS), which would be held by video conference on July 4, 2023.
The announcement read, "The Prime Minister of India issued the invitation to the Prime Minister to attend the SCO-CHS in his role as the current Chair of the SCO.
The leaders will discuss significant global and regional problems during the summit and determine the future course of cooperation among SCO Member States. Iran will join the SCO CHS this year as a new member, according to the statement.
The presidents of Russia, China, the Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan established the SCO at a conference in Shanghai in 2001. In 2017, India and Pakistan were admitted as permanent members.
On September 16 of last year, during the Samarkand Summit, India took over as the SCO's rotating chairman.
India will host the SCO annual summit online on July 4 in a virtual version, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced in May. It did not, however, provide any justification for conducting the meeting virtually.
