2 Assam Officers Arrested For Corruption, Cash Worth ₹ 2.32 Crore Seized
A trap was laid and Mrinal Kanti Sarkar, the additional district program manager of Dhubri, was allegedly caught red-handed in the office of the CEO while accepting ₹ 30,000 as part of the bribe demanded, it said.
Guwahati: Two government employees were detained in connection with a corruption investigation, and 2.32 crore rupees in cash were taken from one of their homes in the Dhubri district of Assam, according to a statement released on Saturday.
An Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer was one of the two people detained in the operation on Friday, it claimed.
According to the statement, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption received a complaint saying that CEO of Dhubri Zilla Parishad Biswajit Goswami sought 9% of the total price for completed work as a bribe from a contractor.
According to the report, a trap was set, and Mrinal Kanti Sarkar, the extra district program manager of Dhubri, was allegedly caught taking 30,000 as part of the demanded bribe while in the CEO's office.
An ACS officer named Biswajit Goswami was later detained, according to the statement.
2.32 crore in cash was found during inspections of Biswajit Goswami's properties, the report claimed.
Additionally, several documents pertaining to the purchase of real estate, numerous bank accounts, and other assets were discovered.
The directorate has been effective in its anti-corruption operation, resulting in the arrest of 117 government officials since May 10, 2021, the day he assumed the charge, said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in congratulating the investigators.
He declared, "The fight against corruption in the government will continue with the same tenacity and vigor."
