An Uddhav Thackeray, Ajit Pawar Meeting Day After Rival Alliance Talks
Ajit Pawar was the Deputy Chief Minister when Uddhav Thackeray was Chief Minister before a split in the Shiv Sena led to the collapse of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government.
Uddhav Thackeray said he was sure Ajit Pawar would work for the state's people.
Mumbai: Uddhav Thackeray, head of the Shiv Sena (UBT), visited former ally and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar for the first time since the NCP leader joined the Eknath Shinde government on Wednesday.
The meeting took place on the fringes of Mr Thackeray's attendance at the parliamentary proceedings, and a day after the former Chief Minister attended a key meeting with other opposition parties in Bengaluru.
The meeting was the first formal meeting since Mr Pawar, a former ally of Mr Thackeray in the undivided Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), switched sides and joined the Shiv Sena-led BJP government.
"I met Ajit Pawar, wished him well, and hoped he would serve the public well. After the meeting, Mr. Thackeray stated, "I have worked with him in 2019 as well, and I am familiar with his working approach.
Before a Shiv Sena rift caused the Maha Vikas Aghadi government to fall, Mr. Pawar served as the deputy chief minister under Uddhav Thackeray.
Mr. Thackeray exhorted Mr. Pawar, who is also the Finance Minister, to keep working to support the state and its people.
He possesses the treasury's keys, therefore I am convinced that the state's citizens will receive assistance, Mr. Thackeray remarked.
When Mr. Pawar and eight other MLAs from the Nationalist Congress Party joined the Shinde administration last month, the political climate in Maharashtra underwent a substantial change. The party, which Sharad Pawar formed, was split by this action.
A year after Eknath Shinde organized a coup against Uddhav Thackeray and, with the support of the BJP, took office as chief minister of Maharashtra, the party divided.
