LONDON : In the West Midlands region of England, a 23-year-old man of Indian descent was found guilty of assaulting his adolescent ex-girlfriend and was given a suspended prison sentence and rehabilitation orders.

At the Wolverhampton Crown Court, Dylan Singh was charged with assault resulting in actual bodily harm and criminal mischief to the victim's phone.

According to a court report published this week in "Birmingham Live," District Judge Adrian Lower sentenced Singh to two years in prison for the "prolonged assault," which will be suspended for two years based on Singh's behavior. When Singh followed his victim onto and off of a bus in December 2021, Lower said there was a "element of control."

He must also comply with restraining orders, 200 hours of unpaid work, and a 30-day rehabilitation program.

The woman, who had met Singh through Snapchat, had told the court that the attack had left her with a black eye, swelling around her eye, red markings, and bruises.

The victim, who asked not to be identified because she is a juvenile, claimed in a statement that she was now "fearful of meeting new people and starting new relationships" as a result of the assault.

Additionally, Singh reportedly told her that he had "learned his lesson not to go out with white girls" and that he had done just that.

It refers to how his "mother and grandmother are pressuring him to settle down with an Indian girl, but he has no particular view on the subject," his attorney Adam Wieczerzak told the court.

In spite of his client's continuing denial of the crime, Wieczerzak maintained, his client had accepted the jury's finding of guilt.
