Jaishankar outlines how PM Modi's visit to the US was unique from that of other PMs.

S. Jaishankar, minister of external affairs, emphasised the sharp contrast between PM Narendra Modi's recent visit to the US and that of other Indian prime ministers, saying it outstripped all others in scope and marked key milestones.

PM Modi addressed the Joint Session of US Congress in Washington DC.

On Friday, S. Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, stressed the sharp contrast between Narendra Modi's recent visit to the United States and prior trips there by Indian prime ministers, pointing out that it was on a totally different scale.

When asked how PM Modi's trip to the US differed from prior ones, the EAM expounded on his own personal experiences. He said that Rajiv Gandhi's visit to Washington in 1985 was the first time he was personally present there.

In addition, Jaishankar noted that among all the visits that have taken place since Rajiv Gandhi, "if we are to generally ask what were the three most significant visits, people would say, PM Narendra Modi's visit in 2014, Dr. Manmohan Singh's visit for the nuclear deal, and Rajiv Gandhi's visit, because he really tried to smooth out ties with the United States, which had been difficult."

The MEA stated, "I can tell you for sure this visit was at a very different level. I was there in Washington for each of these three visits. I can sort of prove to you that it was on a different level in a variety of ways, too.

According to him, this was the only instance in which the Indian Prime Minister spoke twice to the Congress in joint session. Only four persons, including two Israelis and Winston Churchill and Nelson Mandela, have spoken twice to the joint session of the US Congress.

He added that Dr. Manmohan Singh's state visit to the US in 2009 was the first time an Indian prime minister had made a state visit to the country.

The external affairs ministry underscored the warm welcome Prime ministry Modi got, despite the divisive political climate in Washington. The business community, Republicans, and Democrats all gave our Prime Minister warm welcomes, he remarked.

"In the past, the American business community had reservations about travelling with India. However, notable individuals like Satya Nadella, Elon Musk, and Tim Cook were present this time. The results of this visit speak for themselves," he continued.

PM MODI'S US VISIT

A number of key occasions and meetings with leading CEOs from both India and the United States characterised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's trip to the United States, which took place from June 21 to June 24.

At the White House, he was cordially welcomed with a formal welcome and a guard of honour. He was invited to a state dinner at the White House by US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden during his visit.

He also met with US Vice President Kamala Harris and went to a State Luncheon sponsored by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

In his goodbye speech, PM Modi compared his interactions with the Indian diaspora in Washington, DC, to savouring a delicious "sweet dish" before leaving for Egypt from the US.
