A residential home belonging to one of the main defendants in a case involving the fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim and terrorism funding has been impounded by the NationalInvestigation Agency (NIA).Arif Abubakar Shaikh, also known as Arif Bhaijaan, was charged with funding terrorism together with Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar and a few of his close associates, including Chhota Shakeel. He was detained last year.

The residential property of Arif Shaikh, which is located in Maharashtra's Thane district, has been attached, according to the NIA, in accordance with section 25(1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967.

In addition to Dawood Ibrahim and Chota Shakeel, the NIA has already filed a chargesheet under the pertinent UAPA and IPC sections against Arif Abubakar Shaikh, his brother Shabbir Abubakar Shaikh alias Shabbir Takla, and Mohammad Salim Qureshi nicknamed Salim Fruit.

A special MCOCA court denied Arif Shaikh's request for release in March, noting that the NIA's evidence demonstrated that he is a part of the Dawood Ibrahim gang (D-Company).

When denying the bail request, special MCOCA judge BD Shelke stated that the NIA's evidence showed Arif Shaikh gathered money for terrorism by threatening and coercing large sums of money from numerous people for D-Company.

Shelke added, "The materials placed on record also prima-facie show that this accused has received huge sums of money via hawala from the wanted accused."

"The witness clearly claimed that Accused No. 1 utilized to search disputed properties where intervention is necessary for settlement between the parties on orders from Chhota Shakeel. They used to employ threats to get people to drop ongoing legal battles and carry out disputed transactions by making them fear death or serious injury. For the aforementioned work, they either demand exorbitant sums of money or a stake in the property, the court noted.
