Nepal: Eight killed, 15 injured after bus plunges into swollen river

In Nepal's Bagmati province on Wednesday, a passenger bus ran off the main road and into a swollen river, killing at least eight passengers and injuring fifteen more.
According to a media report, the disaster occurred when the bus traveling from Kathmandu to the picturesque city of Pokhara went off course and crashed into the Trishuli River at Chalise in the province's Dhading district, according to myRepublica.com.
The river has gotten flooded due to constant rain during the monsoon season.In Nepal, where the majority of the land is covered in mountains, badly maintained cars and roads are primarily to blame for traffic accidents.
"At least eight persons were murdered and 15 more were hurt in the disaster. There may be a rise in the death toll. Santulal Prasad Jaiswar, Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office in Dhading , was reported in the paper as adding that the rescue effort is still going on.
He claimed that following the collision, the bus was partially buried in the Trishuli River, but rescuers were able to extract several of the passengers alive from the debris.
