Prakash Raj Shredded On Social Media For Chandrayaan-3 Post

The actor shared a post on social media featuring a cartoon that depicted a man pouring tea.

The post was termed insensitive and derogatory by users

New Delhi: On social media, a recent post by actor Prakash Raj on India's Chandrayaan-3 Moon project has generated outrage. On X, formerly known as Twitter, some people perceived the 58-year-old's drawing of an old Malayali joke about a tea vendor on the Moon as a caustic and disparaging jab at the Chandrayaan-3 expedition.

The actor published a cartoon on social media that showed a man pouring tea.

BREAKING NEWS: Vikram Lander's first image taken from the moon I'm simply asking, Wowww," he wrote.

Users who urged him to show respect for the scientists behind India's historic Moon mission criticized the remark as disrespectful and demeaning and begged him to retract it.

Regardless of political party, "Chandrayaan-3" should make the entire nation of India proud. Know the difference between political and xenophobic trolling," one person said.

"Hating someone is different from hating your country, as you know. I'm really sorry to see you in this condition, someone else wrote.

It's tragically sad, I tell you. The work of ISRO and Chandrayaan-3 is one of those exceptional things that lights a million hearts on fire with enthusiasm, optimism, and a sense of unity. One user remarked, "If you can't celebrate that, then your hatred for a person is more intense than your love for the country."

Never allow hatred to overtake you to the point that you start to despise your nation's advancements and your own people's efforts.

One commenter, however, pointed out that the tweet makes reference to a joke from long ago that "predates anyone you feel he is insulting."

"Those who only know hate will only see hate. If it makes a difference, Prakash Raj is making reference to a joke about how Keralites are found all over the world and how the first thing Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin noticed when they set foot on the moon was a Malayali serving tea there.

This joke predates anyone you feel he is attacking. We Keralites have been accepting this old joke about ourselves and laughing about it for decades. That says a lot about you, doesn't it, if you have to insist on continuing to hate after it has been explained to you? The user posted a picture of a moon vendor—apparently a Malayali—with an astronaut in front of them.

Prakash Raj has been outspoken in his criticism of the government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha seat of the 2019 Indian general election, he ran as an independent candidate but came in last.

On July 14, the LVM3 rocket at the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota launched Chandrayaan-3 into space, and on August 5, it entered lunar orbit. On August 23, a soft landing is anticipated.
