Ukraine Fires All Military Recruitment Chiefs, Says Volodymyr Zelensky
"This system should be run by people who know exactly what war is and why cynicism and bribery during war is treason," he said in a statement on Telegram messaging app.
Kyiv: On Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that all of the nation's regional military recruitment centers had been closed due to corruption.
According to President Zelensky, an investigation of Ukraine's recruiting facilities found evidence of professional misconduct, including transferring draft-eligible males across the border in violation of a wartime restriction and unlawful enrichment.
He stated that this system "should be run by people who exactly understand what war is and why cynicism and bribery during war is treason."
As it fights off Russia's full-scale invasion and pursues EU membership, Kyiv has made combating corruption a top priority.
Top general Valery Zaluzhny, according to Volodymyr Zelenksy, will be in charge of carrying out the decision, and the SBU, Ukraine's domestic security service, will first screen fresh candidates for the positions.
As the war with Russia approaches the 18-month mark, Ukraine has experienced recruitment issues, and the military is occasionally rocked by scandals exposing graft or aggressive recruitment strategies.
