‘Attack on Union, and all states’: Rahul Gandhi slams ‘One Nation, One Election’
The Centre on Friday announced a panel to explore the possibility of simultaneous Lok Sabha and state legislative assembly elections.

Rahul Gandhi, a Congressman, blasted the "One Nation, One Election" campaign from the Centre on Sunday, calling it an assault on the Indian union and all of its states.
"Bharat, or INDIA, is a Union of States.Gandhi wrote on X, then known as Twitter, "The concept of 'one nation, one election' is an attack on the Union and all its States.
A panel to examine the potential of holding the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies elections simultaneously was announced by the Centre on Friday. Union home minister Amit Shah, Congress Lok Sabha leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, former opposition leader in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, former chairman of the 15th Finance Commission NK Singh, former LokSabha general secretary Subash Kashyap, senior attorney Harish Salve, and former chief vigilance commissioner Sanjay Kothari make up the committee chaired by the former president Ram Nath Kovind.Arjun Ram Meghwal, MoS for Law, will be a special invitee to the high-level committee sessions.
The panel will consider the current setup under the constitution and other statutory laws as it considers and recommends holding simultaneous Lok Sabha, state legislative assembly, municipalities, and panchayat elections.
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, has refused to participate in the panel, sparking political controversy over the decision.
"I am adamantly refusing to serve on the Committee whose terms of reference have been crafted to ensure the accuracy of its findings. I'm afraid it is a complete eyewash. Furthermore, Chowdhury wrote in a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, "The sudden attempt to thrust a constitutionally suspect, pragmatically unfeasible, and logistically unimplementable idea on the nation, months before the general elections, raises serious concerns about ulterior motives of the government.
It appears as though the Central Government is afraid, said Saurabh Bharadwaj, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, to ANI. Anyhow, they aim to prevail. They are considering other options for forming the government now that INDIA alliance has been established.
